How to reach Kandy
As you know last couple of days I was in Udawalve National Park and living in a homestay with a Sinhali’s family. After living with Wild life in muddy ,marsh forest we are leading towards Columbo and then Central Province of Srilanka and oldest city Kandy. In Srilanka Did you know Kandy is also called as Maha Nuvara which means Great City or Capital. Also it was the last Capital of the kings of Srilanka.If there was a King there has to be a King’s Palace and we are going to explore all this tomorrow. This city can be reached by Car train or Major motor vehicles. The railway line from Columbo goes to farthest point of Srilanka. You must have already seeing lot of videos of train ride from Ella or Kandy. The main roads Colombo-Kandy and Kandy-Nuwara Eliya are two of the most scenic roads of Sri Lanka; Colombo-Kandy road passes through rubber plantations and rice paddies, Kandy-Nuwara Eliya road cuts through paddy fields and seamless tea plantations. Wish I could say went by later but we had less time so we choose the former option for our train ride which is Colombo-Kandy.
Right now this drive was too long and it is going to be for 8 hours and we are still using taxi we hired at the airport. When I am travelling for hours in a car I don’t like to dwell in a full meal. On the way near Kahawatta we ate this big Jar of Mishty Dahi or Yoghurt and it was quite delicious. We spent night at GSH Columbo as the hotel I have got a booking canceled on Booking.com.I recommend this hotel if you want to just spend the night comfortably and don’t want to spend so much.
The Kingsbury Columbo
I am in Srilanka for 4 days now and I did not get chance to see Columbo’s night life. Tonight we go to The Kingsbury Columbo. I did not know I want to go to Kingsbury ,I remember when I reached here it was filled with mirrors all around .Make sure you don’t go herein by Tuk Tuk .It’s a highly lavish and luxurious place. This place is the Sky Lounge Kingsbury consist of a big roof top . It Has a great sunset view towards the Colombo sea and view of the Harbor in the late night. We were very impressed by the effort put by the staff to provide their guests with the best possible experience. They have got this best lounge music and dance numbers and splendid ambience .
Tree Breeze Inn
We reached back to Hotel around 2:30 slept till 6:30 and we had to catch train from Columbo to KANDY.
It take around 4hours and 8 minutes we reached to Kandy .This place is Airbnb and its name was Tree Breeze Inn.If you have been to Goa and this place is like old Goan home and the owner is very kind and helping. I still feel here and there few repairs are required. It was more like a beautiful forest house all surrounded by Trees and Garden.
Five things to do in Kandy
- This is city is one of the best places of Srilanka,so what you want to do first:-
Did you know the City Kandy used to be kingdom of Kandy was Dutch and porteguse Colonies .Kandy is the key reason for advancement of both colonisers. They were the last independent Ceylon in Srilanka and it is stuated near a manmade Lake which enhances its beauty in all its forms.
First place you can take a stroll around the lake or go for boating to have a better view of the city.
2.Second you can visit Temple of the sacred tooth Relic.If you know already temple if the sacred tooth is inside the Kingdom Kandy.it is said that the king of the Kandy empire was obliged to protect the tooth relic.So literally this place has Lord Budha’s Tooth preserved here in the temple.Be prepared to walk in your bare feet from entrance to temple and back on cobbled stones. It is most impressive as the sun sets.
3.Third you can visit Kandy Kingdom palace.I saw a big Curtain/Fan for the big hallway and its innovative style of fanning the whole room.It looked royal and at the same time very much functional too.
Fourth is the Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue,Its a grand white staue n the middle of the city,If you really took the boating around the lake you must have seen it from far.
Fifth and final thing is to visit World Buddhist museum ,A bite of buddhism around the world.Also just outside the Kandy tooth relic,There is big food street named as queen’s street also there is a hotel.looking at this cool food joints you will know yes Srilanka was one of the important Portuguese and dutch colonies.You can find here best food and Do not forget to eat Egg Hopper.
